Google Scholar: Cited Reference Searching
The following steps outline how you can do a cited reference search in Google Scholar (Links to an external site.):
1. Go to Google Scholar (Links to an external site.). If you're not on campus, be sure to use the "Reload at UMPC" Links to an external site. button.
2. Enter a few citation details into the main search page. The most efficient way to search is to enter the article title using double quotes and the author's last name. Let us search for the following article:
Florence, M. D., Asbridge, M., & Veugelers, P. J. (2008). Diet quality and academic performance. Journal of School Health, 78(4), 209-215.
3. In the search results, identify the proper citation. Under the brief record for the citation, look for "Cited by" link. It will display how many times this article has been cited according to Google Scholar. This number can differ from Web of Science Links to an external site. and Scopus Links to an external site.. In this example it has been cited 161 times. Click on the Find It @ UMCP button on the right to access the full-text, if UM Libraries have a subscription to it. Otherwise, you will be prompted to request the article through Interlibrary Loan Links to an external site..
