Communication Across Cultures

As you think about and/or prepare to engage in working with individuals from other cultures, whether internationally or domestically, it is important to consider the differences that exist in communicating across cultures. In this assignment you will watch and then reflect on 2 videos about communicating across cultures. The hope is that this assignment will aid you in thinking about how your own cultural understandings of the working world may influence your workplace communication with others, and especially with those whose cultural understandings of the working world differ from your own.

  3. Watch “Cross-cultural Communication within Teams” by Daisy Lovelace (4m 19s) on LinkedIn Learning (links to an external site)
  4. Engage in the brief activity outlined below and answer the questions that follow.

Evaluation 

To receive points for this assignment, please complete the LESCANT activity outlined below and respond to the two reflective short answer questions that follow.


Activity: Using the LESCANT model (explained in the “Cross-cultural Communication within Teams” video by Daisy Lovelace), assess your own culture and how you view the workplace for each letter of the acronym and write your thoughts about each in complete sentences (at least 3 sentences for each letter of the acronym | minimum: 21 sentences total). Consider what country/region of the world you’re from and how you view workplace norms for each of the following categories:

Note: the questions shown in the parentheses after each letter of the LESCANT acronym are questions that are meant to help prompt your thinking. You do not need to respond to each question listed in the parentheses.
