Module 3 Activity 3

Consider the following final project topics. First, identify the issues facing these proposed topics, and then determine how you might help to improve.

  1. When driving around College Park, I notice that all the lights are red every time. This seems to contribute to the great amount of traffic in the area. I would like to compose a Standard Operating Procedure to show the city how to better time the lights. I will submit the SOP to primary audience Mayor Andrew Fellows. My secondary audience will be the College Park police force, and my tertiary audience will be all non-student residents of College Park.
  2. Smoking is an ever-growing problem that impacts everyone, especially children, as they suffer the most from second-hand smoke. Moreover, cigarette companies, including e-cigarette producers, target young children and adults in order to get them hooked. I want to propose a new law that prohibits all smoking across all of Maryland. My primary audience will be Martin O'Malley; my secondary audience will be non-smokers; and my tertiary audience will be smokers.
  3. Solar energy is the best way for the University of Maryland to meet its goals of being a green/sustainable campus. I would like to write a Technical Background report on Solar Energy and submit it to Scott Lupin, the head of the Office of Sustainability on campus. My secondary audience will be the Provost and other relevant administrators. My tertiary audience will be Resident Life, because lots of students live in dorms.
