Using GoinGlobal to Craft a Resume, CV, and/or Cover Letter for International Job & Internship Applications

You may be familiar with resumes, CVs, and/or cover letters in the United States, but did you know that other countries have different norms and expectations for these application materials? In this assignment, you will use an online resource called GoinGlobal to explore resources and samples for resumes, CVs, and/or cover letters for a foreign country of your choosing. This assignment will provide you with helpful knowledge about using GoinGlobal as a career resource and crafting application materials for another country.

Instructions

1. Login to Handshake by visiting https://careers.umd.edu/handshake (links to an external site). Click on the “Student Log In” button and sign in using CAS.
2. Once logged into Handshake, click on "Career center" in the left navigation bar and then "Resources". In the menu of resources, you'll see GoinGlobal. Click on GoinGlobal and then "Access GoinGlobal here" on the next page. It is important to access GoinGlobal this way because you will be provided access due to your UMD affiliation.
3. Using the navigation bar on the top of the page, hover over “Career Guides” and then click on “Country Career Guides”.
4. Click on a country that you have never lived in but is of interest to you. It is okay if you’ve visited the country before.
5. Navigate the country guide to the section called "Getting the Job", which includes information and resources for creating resumes/CVs/cover letters relevant to that country.
6. Create and submit a draft of a resume, CV, or cover letter for your chosen country using the resources and sample(s) that GoinGlobal provides. Please also include a sample resume, CV, or cover letter you used from GoinGlobal. You should submit both your draft and the sample in the same document.

Evaluation 

To receive points for this assignment, you must submit a draft of a resume, CV, or cover letter, along with a sample you used from GoinGlobal, by uploading a pdf file that is titled in the following format: Your Name_Country_Resume/CV/Cover Letter.pdf. Full points will be awarded if you submit a complete draft along with a sample you used from GoinGlobal. Please make sure that you submit your draft in English.
