Creating and Using a GoinGlobal Personal Account to Supplement International Job & Internship Searches
As you think about traveling, living, and/or working internationally, or even somewhere new in the United States, GoinGlobal is a resource and tool that can support you greatly. In this assignment, you will create a GoinGlobal personal account, explore the resources and tools it has to offer, and save some of those resources to your newly created profile. The hope is that this assignment will aid you in getting a grasp on GoinGlobal as a resource that can support you as you think about the next steps in your career.
Instructions
- Login to Handshake by visiting https://careers.umd.edu/handshake Links to an external site. (links to an external site). Click on the “Student Log In” button and sign in using CAS.
- Once logged into Handshake, click on "Career center" in the left navigation bar and then "Resources". In the menu of resources, you'll see GoinGlobal. Click on GoinGlobal and then "Access GoinGlobal here" on the next page. It is important to access GoinGlobal this way because you will be provided access due to your UMD affiliation.
- Once on the GoinGlobal homepage, scroll down until you see the dark gray box that says “Personalize Your GoinGlobal Experience” and click on the green button that says “Create Account.” You will see that you have an option to create an account using LinkedIn, Twitter, Google, or GoinGlobal. Choose the option that you prefer.
- After account creation, you will be brought to your new My GoinGlobal home page. From your My GoinGlobal home page, you will be able to easily access and revisit country/city career guides, job and internship postings ands searches, employer profiles, and H1B/OPT visa searches that you’ve saved. At this point, each of these sections will be empty.
- Next, you will explore and save the following resources on GoinGlobal to your My GoinGlobal profile:
- At least two career guides of interest (can be country career guides, global city career guides, or U.S. city career guides). You can save a guide by clicking on the green “Save this Guide to My GoinGlobal” button. You can also save individual sections of a career guide directly from those sections.
- At least two job or internship searches of interest (alternatively, you can save one job and one internship search). You can save a search after you conduct the search by clicking on the green “Save this Search to My GoinGlobal” button on the top left.
- At least two job or internship listings of interest (alternatively, you can save one job and one internship listing). You can save a listing by clicking on the green “Save this Search to My GoinGlobal” link next to the individual posting.
- You can also choose to save Employer Profiles and H1B/OPT Searches and Company Profiles if you’d like, but this is not required.
- Take a screenshot(s) of your home screen showing the two career guides you’ve explored and saved, the two job or internship searches you’ve explored and saved, and the two job or internship listings you’ve explored and saved.
- Answer two questions about your experience on GoinGlobal.
