When applying for internships and jobs, an immediate impression from a quick glance at your resume (from a large pile of them) can determine whether you are seriously considered as a candidate or dismissed. It is always easier to update your resume once you have a first draft, so now is the time to get it done right!
Task Instructions
Enroll in the Resume Basics self-paced online module created by the University Career Center & The President's Promise (linked below). From what you learn in the module, draft a resume that highlights your most relevant experience, skills, and training. Keep in mind that consistent formatting and overall appearance of your resume play a key role when employers are making their first impression of you. Your resume will be an evolving document as you gain more experience, and this first try will give you the base and framework needed for your future updates. This resume should reflect your best effort.

OVERALL RESUME FORMAT
Student provides consistent format with not too much white space. Appropriate margins used (between .5" and 1.25"). Font size is between 10-12pt and consistent throughout resume. Font type is easy to read. Resume is one page unless it is a federal resume. Resume is free of grammatical and spelling errors. Student uses present tense for current positions and past tense for past experiences. Content sections are listed in order of what is most relevant, with Objective (if applicable) and Education at the top. Experiences in each content section are listed in reverse chronological order. Student avoided using personal pronounces (I, me, my).

Student leads section with University of Maryland academic information. Student includes degree, major/concentration, and anticipated graduation date. If applicable, honors, academic scholarships and awards are listed. If applicable, relevant courses, study abroad, and research may be included. If GPA is above a 3.0, it is included.

Student provides the position title, organization name, location, and date/duration for each experience listed. If a course project, the student lists the class and university. Resume excludes outdated information. Student does not include high school information after UMD sophomore year UNLESS very applicable to field. Bullet points start with strong action verbs. Bullet points effectively describe what the student did, how they accomplished it, why the task was important, and/or what impact their performance had within the organization.
