NOAA Coast Watch Tutorial

NOAA Coast Watch Tutorial On Ocean Satellite Data Products And Using ERDDAP and R or ArcGIS To Access And Work With Satellite Data

This session will familiarize participants with accessing data from ERDDAP and working with netCDF formatted data using R and ArcGIS. Examples will focus on ocean satellite data distributed by CoastWatch but are applicable to NetCDF files in general and to other types of data accessed through ERDDAP servers. It will be a mix of demos, group discussions and off-line self-paced work.

10:50 – 11:20 am EST: CoastWatch Data Portal Demo 

11:20 – 11:40 am EST: ERDDAP demo + questions 

11:40 – 12:00 pm EST:   ERDDAP on your own + questions

 

Lunch (1 hour)

1:00 – 1:20 pm EST:   Tutorials intro (15 mins)

1:20 – 2:50 pm EST:   Hands-on independent work on tutorials. 

    • Tutorials are self-paced. 
    • Instructors will be available to answer questions throughout, and to provide tech support.

2:50 - 3:00 pm EST: Wrap-up

Python

The examples presented in the course are written in Python 3 and provided as Jupyter Notebooks. AnacondaLinks to an external site. installations have made it easier to install the required modules.  We recommend MinicondaLinks to an external site., a lightweight version of Anaconda that takes up less disk space and resolves common environment configuration issues present in the full anaconda distribution.
